Best BBQ Spare Ribs
BBQ spare ribs are a staple of summer grilling and backyard gatherings. The perfect rack of ribs should be tender, flavorful, and have a beautiful smoky bark.
This classic BBQ spare ribs recipe delivers all that and more, combining a delicious homemade rub with low and slow cooking on the BBQ.
So fire up your grill and get ready to make some mouthwatering ribs that will have everyone coming back for seconds!

Ingredients:
2 racks of pork spare ribs (about 4-5 lbs total)
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
Instructions:
Preparing the Ribs:
Remove the Membrane: On the back of each rack of ribs, locate the thin, papery membrane and remove it. This will help the seasonings and smoke penetrate the meat more effectively.
Season the Ribs: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this seasoning mixture all over both sides of the ribs, pressing it into the meat to adhere.
Let Them Rest: Once seasoned, let the ribs sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
BBQing the Ribs:
Preheat the BBQ: Preheat your BBQ to 225°F (107°C) using indirect heat. If you're using charcoal, set up a two-zone fire with coals on one side and no coals on the other. For gas grills, only light the burners on one side.
Smoking: If you have wood chips or chunks, now is the time to add them. Soak your wood chips in water for about 30 minutes, then place them directly on the coals or in a smoker box on a gas grill. This will add a smoky flavor to your ribs.
Cooking: Place the seasoned ribs on the cool side of the grill, away from direct heat. Close the lid and let them cook low and slow for about 3-4 hours. You're looking for a nice bark to form on the outside and for the meat to be tender but not falling off the bone.
Basting: After the first 2 hours, start basting the ribs with your favorite BBQ sauce every 30 minutes or so. This will add flavor and keep the ribs moist.
Checking Doneness: The ribs are done when the internal temperature reaches about 190-203°F (88-95°C) and the meat has pulled back from the ends of the bones. You can also do the "bend test" where the ribs should bend easily when lifted from one end with tongs.
Resting: Once done, remove the ribs from the grill and let them rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
There you have it! A foolproof recipe for BBQ spare ribs that's sure to be a crowd-pleaser. With a flavorful homemade rub, low and slow cooking, and a touch of smoky goodness, these ribs are everything you could want in a summer BBQ dish.
Serve them up with your favorite BBQ sides and enjoy the compliments as your guests savor every bite. Happy grilling!
