Embrace Radiant Winter Skin: Essential Skincare Tips

As the chilly winds of winter sweep through Sacramento, our skin often bears the brunt of the seasonal shift, becoming dry, dull, and more prone to irritation. However, with the right skincare routine and habits, you can maintain a healthy and radiant complexion despite the colder weather. Here are some essential skincare tips to help you glow all winter long:

Hydrate Inside and Out

Cold air outside and heated indoor environments can sap moisture from your skin, leading to dryness and dehydration. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day

Gentle Cleansing

Opt for a gentle, non-stripping cleanser to remove impurities and makeup without stripping away natural oils. Avoid hot water, which can further dehydrate the skin, and instead, cleanse with lukewarm water to maintain moisture balance.

Moisturize Strategically

Pay special attention to areas prone to dryness, such as elbows, knees, and heels, by applying a thicker moisturizer or hydrating balm. Consider using a humidifier in your home to add moisture to the air and prevent skin from becoming overly dry.

Protect Lips and Hands

Don't forget to care for your lips and hands, which are often exposed to harsh weather conditions. Use a nourishing lip balm with SPF protection to prevent chapping and sun damage. Wear gloves when outdoors to shield your hands from cold air and moisture loss.

Nourish from Within

A balanced diet rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids can support skin health from the inside out. Incorporate foods like fatty fish, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables into your meals to provide nutrients that promote hydration and combat inflammation.

By incorporating these skincare tips into your daily routine, you can keep your skin glowing and radiant throughout the winter season.

Remember to listen to your skin's needs and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal hydration and protection against the elements. Here's to a season of healthy, happy skin in Sacramento!

Spicy Shrimp Tacos with

Mango Salsa

Kick off your weekend with a burst of flavor! These Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Mango Salsa are a perfect combination of heat, sweetness, and freshness. Whether you're entertaining friends or simply treating yourself, these tacos are sure to impress with every bite.

Here's what you need:

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Mango Salsa:

  • 1 ripe mango, diced

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • Salt to taste

For Assembly:

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas, warmed

  • Shredded lettuce or cabbage

  • Sliced avocado

  • Lime wedges for serving

  • Optional toppings: sour cream, hot sauce

Here's how you do it:

  • Prepare the Mango Salsa: In a bowl, combine the diced mango, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño pepper, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. Mix well, then cover and refrigerate while you prepare the shrimp.

  • Marinate the Shrimp: In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Add the shrimp to the bowl and toss until evenly coated. Let the shrimp marinate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  • Cook the Shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated shrimp in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

  • Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas according to package instructions. Place a spoonful of shredded lettuce or cabbage on each tortilla, followed by a few pieces of cooked shrimp. Top with a generous spoonful of mango salsa and sliced avocado.

  • Serve and Enjoy: Serve the Spicy Shrimp Tacos immediately, garnished with additional cilantro and lime wedges on the side. Let your guests customize their tacos with optional toppings like sour cream or hot sauce.

  • Enjoy your flavor-packed Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Mango Salsa! Pair them with your favorite refreshing beverage for the ultimate Friday night feast.

Note: Adjust the level of spiciness to your preference by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper in the shrimp marinade.
